Sublimation is a cutting-edge printing technique used to transfer high-quality designs onto materials like mugs, T-shirts, and other personalized items. The process involves turning a solid dye into a gas without passing through a liquid state, allowing the dye to bond with the fibers or surface of the product. Here’s how it works:
Design Creation: The first step is creating a digital design, which can include text, images, or logos. The design is printed onto a special sublimation transfer paper using sublimation inks.
Heat Transfer: The transfer paper is then placed onto the item (e.g., a mug or shirt) in perfect alignment. The item is placed into a heat press or oven, where both heat and pressure are applied.
Dye Conversion: Under heat (typically around 380°F or 195°C), the sublimation ink on the transfer paper turns into a gas. This gas permeates the surface of the item and bonds directly with the material, such as polyester fabric or a specially coated ceramic surface.
Cooling and Curing: After the item is heated for a set period, it’s removed from the press and allowed to cool. The result is a vibrant, long-lasting, and fully embedded design.
